About the Artwork

This portrait holds a very special place in my heart. It is an oil painting of Zuri, a beautiful soul who belonged to my dear friends Maureen and Rob. Zuri wasn't just their pet; she was a deeply special dog to me, and capturing her essence on canvas was a true labor of love.

Zuri had a remarkably gentle, sweet nature that radiated wherever she went. Every single week, she dedicated her time to working at a retirement home, bringing immense joy, comfort, and companionship to the residents there.

In painting Memories of Zuri, I wanted to capture that signature, open-mouthed smile and the pure affection in her eyes. By placing her against a rich, high-contrast blended blue/black background, her warm golden and cream fur truly comes alive, highlighting the luminous texture of her coat. I created this piece as a surprise birthday gift for Rob, celebrating a truly exceptional dog who left a lasting impression on everyone she loved—including me.
